FAQs

Questions about the courses we offer?

The answers we give most often. If yours isn't here, get in touch and ask us directly.

How does the online learning actually work?

The online learning model covers 100% of the qualification criteria. The Level 2 and Level 3 courses comprise coursework, theory-based examinations and a practical assessment. All coursework and theory examinations can be completed with the help of our online guidance and resources. For the practical assessment you video-record your session from start to finish, then upload it for one of our qualified examiners to assess.

What is the online learning process?

On enrolling for online learning you are given a password that grants access to all of the online resources that help you progress through every aspect of the course. You are also assigned a personal tutor who you can contact for extra help and guidance whenever you need it. Once you have completed the coursework and theory examinations, you video-record your practical assessment and send it to one of our qualified examiners.

How do I complete coursework online?

The coursework units require completion of the Learner Achievement Portfolio (LAP). You have access to this on enrolment and can download and complete it on your laptop, phone or tablet. The LAP has a range of units with specific questions to answer. Once completed, upload your LAP for one of our assessors to mark.

How do I take my theory examinations online?

When you feel ready, follow the link to our online assessment facility and complete the multiple choice questions. To pass you must score 70% or above, and additional attempts can be taken if needed. Your score is generated immediately, so there is no waiting in anticipation.

Can I prepare for my practical assessment online?

Yes. We have an entire library of instructional exercise videos that guide you through how to coach your clients, with demonstrations and technical instructions — including common technical faults and ways to remedy them. When you feel ready, work with your volunteer client, record your final practical assessment and send the file to one of our qualified tutors to assess.

How long does the online learning take?

You are in control. You can complete the online learning option as slowly or quickly as you wish. If you work full time and can only afford a few hours per week, no problem. If you are in a rush, there is nothing stopping you qualifying within weeks of enrolment.

What if I can't afford the costs?

You can access an Advanced Learner Loan that pays 100% of your tuition fees, repayable only once you are earning over £25,000 per year — see gov.uk/advanced-learner-loan for more information. 0% finance payment plans and instalments are also available.

What are the entry requirements?

For Level 2 there are no formal entry requirements, but some experience of gym-based exercise, including free weights, is highly recommended. The course requires physical exertion and individual participation is essential, so a degree of physical fitness is necessary. Learners should have basic communication skills pitched at Level 2.

For the Level 3 Certificate in Planning and Delivering Personal Training, you need a Level 2 qualification in Gym Instructing.

For the Level 4 Certificate in Strength and Conditioning, you need a Level 3 Diploma in Personal Training, a Level 3 coaching qualification, or a Level 3 Strength and Conditioning qualification (or equivalents). Relevant higher or further education qualifications at an equivalent or higher level — physiotherapy or sports therapy, for example — are also accepted.

Where will my qualification lead me?

Your qualification will enable you to work within a gym environment or as a self-employed personal trainer. Our qualifications are Ofqual-regulated, certificated by Focus Awards and CIMSPA endorsed, giving employers assurance that you are appropriately qualified with the knowledge, competence and skills to perform your role.

What if I am already qualified as a Level 2 gym instructor?

You are not required to re-sit that part of the course — you can enrol straight onto the Level 3 Certificate in Planning and Delivering Personal Training.

What's the difference between the Level 3 Certificate and the Level 3 Diploma Practitioner?

The Diploma Practitioner is both the Level 2 gym qualification and the Level 3 Certificate combined. If you already have the Level 2, you can enrol straight onto the Level 3 Certificate.

Where do the qualifications take place?

We have a variety of excellent partner gyms across the region — and beyond — used for our classes, lectures, seminars and assessment days. We also offer an online learning model, where you can become a fully qualified fitness professional from the comfort of your own home: find out more at ptne.online.

How long are the courses?

We work around you, so you study at a pace that suits you, your work, your family and your other commitments. See How you study for the delivery models and typical durations.

What happens if I struggle with the theory side?

Everyone develops in different ways, and the support needed varies from person to person. Our tutors work with you and help you along your journey, offering individual support every step of the way.

How much do the qualifications cost?

Every price includes registration and certification. Instalments, 0% finance and the Advanced Learner Loan are available on all of them.
