What is the Level 4 Certificate in Nutrition for Weight Management and Athletic Performance?

Most clients come to a trainer wanting to lose fat, perform better, or both. What they eat decides as much of the result as what they lift. This qualification gives you the skills, knowledge and competence to support clients with a range of weight management and athletic performance goals.

You start with the fundamentals: the systems of the human body, metabolism and energy balance, and how the food we eat and the supplements we take act on those systems. No prior anatomy, physiology or nutrition background is needed. Then you apply it: collecting a client's data, analysing their current eating, explaining where they stand and where support will help, and designing the strategy and eating plan that gets them to their goal.

It is built for apparently healthy clients. Clinical conditions and medical diets remain the work of Registered Dietitians, and the course teaches you where that line sits.

What you'll study

  1. Systems of the human body
  2. Human metabolism, the energy balance, and the currency of calories
  3. Applied nutrition for health
  4. Fuelling for athletic performance
  5. Common diets, food labelling, and the effects of marketing
  6. Understanding supplemental aids and strategising nutritional goals for clients
